$50

I got a $50 gift/tip today at the Best Western. It was from an old black minister who a few days ago asked me to order a pizza for him from Pizza Hut. When he called they hung up on him because he's so old, had a special diet, really hard to understand and need I mention .. crazy? So I ordered it for him so he could take his meds.

Anyhow, today he comes in and has me to sign a sheet of paper, then he handed me a $50 check. He said it was my blessing and .. Merry Christmas.
I feel all weird about it. One of the housekeepers told me not to think like that. She said, "That's yo blessing child! Maybe you did something good for somebody and this is God's way of giving you something back. This is yo blessing and you should cash that check."

(The minister's house burned down earlier last week and has been staying at the hotel. His house, burned to the ground, was on the front page of the paper.)

So I can't help but wonder, is it a blessing? If so, what do I buy myself with it?
But what if it's some sort of test? hmmm.. Am I supposed to give it to charity?
(This sounds like the plot to some cheesy Christmas movie.)
What would YOU do?

finally.. thank you

A Sorta Fairytale (Demo) from the Tori boxset is what I really wanted from her in this song. It's so primal and real.
You really get a sense of its origin. I can't stop listening to it.

The Be Good Tanyas Concert/Pics

I just got back from The Be Good Tanyas concert. Man! What an awesome show. It was very intimate. They talked about walking along the beach in Santa Cruz and how beautiful it was. The last time they played here was 4 years ago. They did a lot of their new stuff mixed in with some classics like The Littlest Birds, Waiting Around To Die (I totally creamed on that one.. she got REALLY in to it) and Reuben. Round of applause for the hot bass player!!
Ana Egge opened for them. She sounds a lot like Dar Williams. I talked to Ana at the cd stand. She sang a song called Taco, Texas. I asked, "Is that really a town? I lived there once and never heard of it." She said, "Yeah it's by Dallas but I think a river now seperates the town." Enjoy the pics!!! If you click on them it gets a little bigger :)

can you hear the drums fernando?

Things are better than they were, mainly thanks to Stratton talking to me over Yahoo Msngr. who basically said.. girl, you know better. Ahh.. yes.

I was horribly hungover yesterday and it began with a man next to me at the this place where I was eating breakfast. He ordered an omlet and pussy, then laughed. He then looked at me and I think I must have had this disgusted look on my face.

*It's an ABBA evening. just got off work, having a beer and ciggie at the coffee shop. It's been 80 degrees and everyone has been complaining all day that it's too fucking hot.

i love belle and sebastian

I've been out of computer land for the last couple of days.
Doing quite well here. I've been working a lot and I get tired so I come home and meditate for a while. I feel a bit as if I've been living two extremes the last couple of weeks. One extreme is being challenged at work, the other is solace I find at home. I'm gradually getting used to working a full time job. What more to do than go see The English Beat friday night?! Ohhhhh yeah. It's at the beach Boardwalk.
fyi: Belle and Sebastian have been rocking my world more so than usual.

Hope everyone out there is doing wonderful.
peace and love

sufi

I'm currently reading The Sufi Message of Hazrat Inayat Khan, a Sufi mystic of the early 1900's.
It includes:
The Mysticism of Sound
Music
The Power of the Word
& Cosmic Language

Currently he is talking about vibrations. How everyone has a specific note that their soul is tuned to.
Excerpt:
Sound has its birth, death, sex, form, planet, god, color, childhood, youth and age; but that volume of sound which is in the abstract sphere beyond the sphere of the concrete is the origin and basis of all sound.
(He goes on to say that thoughts too include all of these things)
-This book is changing my life. I have always thought everything was born, created with sound/vibrations. Here's someone who has written a whole book about it over a hundred years ago.
thank you Mr. Khan.

stars

-I'm on day 5 of not smoking. Not even a puff. I've finally done it. Thanks to the guy from the pranic healing session the other night who, when he was done looked at me and said, "You shouldn't want a cigarette anymore" and he was right. My body is still adjusting but I can tell I have more energy, I can taste food better and I don't have any heaviness in my chest anymore. This is a major goal of mine, something I've wanted to do before I turn the big 30. But it does feel like a part of me has died, kinda sad, but which I'm assuming is creating new space for great things.

I've listened to this song 4 times. I wonder what is different about it tonight?

-I've noticed I've been more nostalgic and sensitve at night lately.. a stronger connnection to the stars and to those who have passed on when I look into the sky. I feel as though my higher self is calling me and I'm looking at the moon with fresh new eyes. My emotions have overtaken everything and I feel I'm operating on genuine and mystical themes floating in the air that I just can't help but breath into my heart and savour. It feels so pure I get teary-eyed, my head bows between my shoulders and I simply absorb the essence of whatever it is that's there.

interview

I really wasn't prepared or maybe I didn't know what to really expect during this job interview today. The job is caring for the elderly. Clients include those with dementia, disabled etc. So the interviewer asked :
Are you okay working with dying patients?
(Most of our patients are DNR so your CPR skills are useless)
Do you have a problem cleaning them up before they are taken to the morgue?
Can you identify a bed sore?
And so on......
-I've been working in this field for a long time. This is the first time I have been asked if I was okay helping someone in their dying process. I immediately had thoughts of sage, incense and candles. Somewhat of a George Harrison way of dying. (Sorry to those who are still sensitive about all this)

-Needless to say to my amazement I totally aced the quiz they gave me which helps considering I looked like total shit when I walked in there.
I'm hoping the other job I interviewed for last week comes through rather than the one above. I would much rather be helping someone in a creative way rather than on their way to the other side. But I guess in a way, if I'm meant to be that last person they see before they die it's okay.. it's just a little sad? weird? depressing? enlightening? And the question to myself.. would you feel a little weird getting paid for doing something such as this? It feels a little 1-800-dial-a-friend that CA. taxes are paying for. But if I consider my own life and when I die I know that if someone, stranger or not could be there to hear my last words it would be nice.

thinking back on the music

I've been reliving puberty through music. It started years ago wiith Janet Jackson's Control album and ended with Madonna's Erotica album. I'm happening upon all this music from the past and really, it brings eveything in perspective. Wow... talk about such a secret life then when no one knew the REAL me. Times then, I felt I was living a lie and telling lies to cover up all those things I didn't want people to know. Facts I was too embarassed and scared to reveal, even to myself. It seemed all so complicated then. Now, I think it helps to remember where I've come from. Now, it's so easy to be me and I wonder how the hell I survived being in my own personal hell for so long with no one to talk to. That was 8 years... 8 years!! of repression, lies, me hating myself and feeling worthless.
So... I hid in the music, the music I was making, singing, playing and the music I was listening to.

Gay Pride is next weekend. It's funny, I've never felt so prideful before. It was always a fuck the government kind of mentailty. Now it seems to be personal. I am thankful, for one.. that I am still alive and two.. I have great friends. I'm also thankful that I am in a place where being yourself is actually a healthy thing well... for the most part.
